AUCD Members

There are 134 AUCD member Centers and Programs located in the nation’s 56 states and territories:
67 UCEDDs, 52 LENDs, and 14 IDDRCs.


4,213 trainees were trained at UCEDDs and LENDs in over 50 disciplines. These individuals participate in intensive curricular and research experiences in order to increase their knowledge and grow their leadership skills. 83% of former LEND trainees tell us they are holding leadership positions in a variety of settings after graduation.

traineediscipliniesHealth professionals (23%) such as pediatricians, developmental-behavioral pediatricians, nurses, dentists, and geneticists provide care and treatment services. Allied health professionals (46%) include physical and occupational therapists, nutritionists, psychologists, social workers, and public health professionals. They provide a range of technical, therapeutic, and direct patient care and support services. Educators (11%) teach others in a multitude of settings and include special educators, early interventionists, and general education teachers. General studies trainees (20%) come from a multitude of disciplines including public administration, law, disability studies, family, and human development.


AUCD members work with the community to provide necessary services and supports to people with disabilities and their families.

In FY2016:

  • 120,349 people were seen in LEND or UCEDD clinical settings
  • 129,131 individuals and families received clinical, demonstration, or other model services
  • 94,439 people received diagnostic services from a LEND or UCEDD

Knowledge is at the core of improving the quality of life for people with disabilities, and AUCD members work to advance the education of people and communities at all levels, from the earliest preschool age children and their families to students in postsecondary settings to continuing education throughout the lifespan, from discussions in the classroom to speaking with legislators and policy makers.

In FY2016, 1,697,390 people received training and technical assistance from network members. Network Centers and Programs produced 8,262 total different publications:

  • 1,188 reports and fact sheets
  • 2,160 books & peer reviewed publications
  • 919 e-products
  • 252newsletters
  • 89 learning modules


The majority (80%) of AUCD income comes from grants and contracts. In FY2016, a concerted effort has also been made to diversify our funding by engaging private, corporate, and individual donors.

AUCD works to keep our operations efficient, using the maximum available resources to further the goals of our strategic plan. These program services expenses make up the vast majority (84%) of AUCD’s expenses, which is considered excellent by industry standards.

Financial Year Highlights

  • Received a clean audit opinion for financial year ending on June 30, 2016.
  • Increased overall pass-through funding to the network up to $1.4M compared with $0.9M and $0.5M in two previous financial years, respectively.
  • Carried out activities for $670K more than budgeted, $500K of this was spent in the field at individual centers.
  • Ended the financial year with 158K unrestricted surplus that allowed to replenish organization’s Operational Reserve Fund by $107K, the amount borrowed last year due to deficit.
  • Increased overall net assets to $2.3M, $1.8M of which is unrestricted net assets to ensure long-term financial health and resiliency.
  • No membership dues increase
  • Further diversified donor base (see chart Non-Federal Sources of Revenue).
  • Implemented and operationalized new policies and procedures per 2 CFR 200 to ensure continued compliance with rules and regulations.
